Needless to say, LeBron James has an extensive history with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Bronny James has witnessed that growing up. Virtually no one would disagree that he is the greatest Cavalier to ever play for the team.
The 39-year-old James started his career in Cleveland and turned the franchise into a formidable contender in the Eastern Conference during his time there until he went to Miami. Then, when he returned from South Florida as a two-time NBA champion, he made it his goal to win a championship for the city he debuted in, ultimately succeeding in 2016 as he led Cleveland to a comeback after a 3-1 deficit in the finals of that year.
Even LeBron’s son Bronny James has close ties to the city. The LA Lakers rookie was born when his father’s career was just starting to take off. The younger James spent much of his childhood in Cleveland, and was there when the team won their first-ever championship.
The father-and-son duo had a homecoming of sorts on Wednesday when they visited Cleveland to play their first game together against their old home team. The Cavaliers paid them respect with their respective “welcome home” digital portraits. One welcome banner shows LeBron holding the Larry O’Brien and the Finals MVP trophies, while the other shows the younger Bronny as he joined his father and JR Smith in celebrating the Cavaliers’ 2016 NBA championship victory.

Bronny James scores his first NBA points against the Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated LeBron James and his son Bronny James in their homecoming game on Wednesday, 134-110. Despite being their opponents that night, the Cleveland fans showed nothing but love for the Lakers’ father-and-son tandem, especially for Bronny for what he accomplished in the fourth quarter.
The Lakers entered Bronny in the closing minutes of the game. Trailing by 22 points in the last two-plus minutes of the fourth quarter with no hope of catching up, the younger James had the opportunity to play without being pressured to win.
LeBron’s son drove to the baseline, defended by his fellow 2024 draftee Jaylon Tyson. Instead of looking for a teammate to pass to, Bronny attempted a shot over his defender and sank the first two points of his NBA career.

The entire Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse erupted in joy for LeBron James’ son when his shot connected. It must be even more satisfying for Bronny to have his father see him score his first points in the NBA—in the place where he established himself as one of the NBA greats, no less.
