Brooklyn Nets forward Ben Simmons continues to work his way back to his top form, as he readies himself for a big contract year in 2024-25. According to his agent Bernie Lee, Simmons is expected to be a key contributor to the team next season.
“Ben has been doing his rehab and prep work for the upcoming season in Miami. He is through the rehab stage and has moved on to strength and conditioning,” Lee said via Brian Lewis of The New York Post. “Because there have been so many starts and stops previously, I’ll simply say, he’s in a great place and the expectation is he’s able to start the season 100 percent of himself ready to go.”
“An outsider sees uncertainty but someone living it sees opportunity. Ben is excited to play basketball healthy, which isn’t something he’s been able to do since he’s been in Brooklyn. He’s focused on having the best year of his career and if he does I’m pretty sure all of that uncertainty will quickly disappear,” he added.
Ben Simmons has been the butt of jokes by the basketball community because of his inability to stay on the hardwood. He is coming off his worst season in 2023-24 since he only played 15 regular season games (12 starts), averaging 6.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game on 58.1 percent shooting from the field.
Brooklyn Nets are in for a “short” rebuild
The Brooklyn Nets have signaled that a rebuild is on the horizon after trading Mikal Bridges, their former cornerstone, to the New York Knicks.
By doing this, the team is taking the Sam Presti route, stashing a handful of draft picks they could use to add players or as potential trade chips.
At the same time, they can let the expiring deals of Ben Simmons, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Dennis Schroder run out next summer, which would open up as much as $80 million in cap space in 2025.
