Cam Thomas is expected to take on a bigger leadership role for the Brooklyn Nets after the team traded Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks earlier this summer.
The Brooklyn Nets aren’t expected to win many games this upcoming season. But don’t tell that to Cam Thomas, as the 22-year-old guard will do everything in his power to set a foundation for the future.
“Just knowing that and embracing it. Attacking it head-on. I’ve kind of been having those roles (as the leader of the team) ever since I was in high school and college. So, I’m not really worried about it. I’m just excited to get it going and to try to do it in the League. I’m not really worried about it at all; I’m just ready,” Thomas said in an interview with Slam Magazine’s Curtis Bowser III.
Cam Thomas is coming off his best season to date in 2023-24, averaging 22.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists on 44.2 percent shooting in 66 regular season games. But if he is going to lead the Brooklyn Nets to wins, the former LSU standout has to continue to grow as a player.
“Just doing everything—doing it consistently. I had the biggest jump in points from my second year to my third year. I was at 22.5 (points per game), so I think trying to get into that 25 ppg range, upping the playmaking, and just trying to keep improving my all-around game. And hopefully, it leads to wins,” he explained.
Brooklyn Nets 2024 offseason so far
The Brooklyn Nets were able to re-sign Nic Claxton, Keon Johnson, and Trendon Watford to new contracts while adding Killian Hayes, Shake Milton, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Ziaire Williams via separate deals this summer.
The Brooklyn Nets are entering its rebuilding phase, and many speculate that they will tank the 2024-25 season to improve their lottery odds ahead of next year’s NBA Draft.
If they nab a Top 3 pick, the Brooklyn Nets can use it to get Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper, VJ Edgecombe, or Ace Bailey to be their newest foundational piece.
