The New York Knicks received some bad news following their 113-109 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night. The Knicks led early, but the Lakers mounted a fourth-quarter comeback to win their eighth-straight game in front of 18,997 fans at crypto.com Arena.
New York was led by Jalen Brunson, who scored 39 points and added four rebounds and 10 assists.
Unfortunately for the Knicks, Brunson rolled his right ankle when he landed awkwardly on Lakers’ guard Austin Reaves’ foot after being fouled with 1:24 left in overtime. He hit two free throws before exiting the game to seek medical attention.
NBA News: New York Knicks have a bad injury

Per the Associated Press, Brunson could miss an “extended period” following Thursday night’s injury. Knicks forward Josh Hart said the team expects to be without Brunson for a little bit.
“It’s a bummer of an injury,” Hart said. “We expect him to be out for a little bit.”
Brunson is a key figure in the Knicks’ explosive offense this season. He’s averaging the seventh-most points per game in the Association, 26.3 per outing.
Next man up

Center Karl-Anthony Towns acknowledged losing Brunson would hurt.
It’s next man up,” Towns said. “He’s a huge part of our team. We’ve been playing with grit and have to go out there and do it again.”
The Knicks have lost two games in a row. They’re set to travel to play the LA Clippers on Friday night.
