Bobby Portis had himself a night against the Washington Wizards by recording his second best scoring performance with 34 points.
He also feasted on the rebounding department with 10 rebounds and came up a little short on assists with eight.
He could have had a triple double, the first in his career. However, Damian Lillard ‘threw him off.’
Talking to reporters post-game, BP jokingly blamed his teammate as the reason why he did not get the rare feat.
Lillard did not play in the game and was contented into an audience/coach on the sidelines.
“He definitely messed me up. (laughs) I looked up, I had eight assists. And you know me, eight assists crazyyy. I got eight? I said, ‘Hold on, I gotta DHO and try to find it.’ Threw my whole rhythm off for real, but it’s all good,” he said as quoted by The Athletic’s Eric Nehm.
His quote is a reaction to his coach Doc Rivers who also pointed at Lillard for his failure to get a triple double.
“If Dame hadn’t have told (Bobby) that he had two assists left for a triple-double, he probably would have gotten a triple double,” Rivers said.
Bobby Portis’ passing game
BP stepped in as a starting forward after Giannis Antetokounmpo did not suit up due to back spasms.
It meant losing his more than 32 ppg, 1.6 rpg, and six assists per game.
Portis definitely filled up what they missed, especially on the assists department as he recorded his career high of eight assists.
Before that, his highest total was only five. His highest so far this season is four.
It was a much needed game for BP as he has been subjected to various trade rumors lately because of his poor play from the bench.
