The NBA.com has released its first ever NBA Cup MVP ranking and Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo sits at the top of the list after dominating in his team’s first two games.
The Greek Freak, who was named Player of the Week at the same time, averages 30.0 points per game, 7.0 rpg, 9.0 apg, and 2.5 bpg, on 69.7 FG% shooting.
The website wrote:
Antetokounmpo remains his dominant self through all of it. Defenses have had little answer for the former two-time Kia NBA MVP, as he is shooting 65% or better no matter how closely he is defended during Cup play. He is having the opposite effect on opponents, who are shooting a frigid 36.8% on 2-pointers defended by the Greek Freak.
Sitting in second spot is Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers who leads his team in points on the way to a 2-0 record in West Group B.
Something has shifted in Milwaukee after their 2-8 start. They were once the second worst team in the league but are no back in a playoff position with 8-9 record, good enough for a sixth spot.
Antetokounmpo is playing an MVP season again, being the league’s best scorer so far with 32.4 points.
Many point to Doc Rivers’ decision to start Andre Jackson Jr. and give more minutes to AJ Green as the reason behind their surge for it gives Giannis young legs to run with.
The NBA In-Season Tournament, officially known as Emirates NBA Cup, will return tomorrow. The Bucks will face the Miami Heat.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s NBA Cup MVP being preyed on by Franz Wagner
Franz Wagner of the Orlando Magic is third in the NBA Cup MVP ranking and rightfully so.
The young German forward has stepped big time ever since Paolo Banchero got injured. Wagner might become an All-Star this season if he remains consistent.
He scored at least 30 points in four of their last five games and is averaging 23. 6 ppg this season.
The 23-year-old is now a marked man for opponents.
His coach Jamahl Moshley has nothing but praises for the young stud.
“He’s not afraid of big moments, and that’s what we’ve asked him to do,” Mosley said.
“I could not be happier for this team. But for him, who puts in such an amazing amount of work, and to see that fall is just (great).”
