Caitlin Clark will finally have her jersey retired by her alma mater, Iowa Hawkeyes, where she solidified her name in college women’s basketball. The much-awaited event gained support from many, including Aliyah Boston, Clark’s teammate at the Indiana Fever.
Boston, who clashed with Caitlin Clark numerous times during their college years, posted an Instagram story sharing the Hawkeyes’ Reels announcing the retirement of her teammate’s jersey in February 2025. She captioned, “It’s always go cocks but so happy for you sista❤️❤️congrats and go hawks for today😭,” backing Clark’s milestone.
Caitlin Clark showcased exceptional talent throughout her stint with the Iowa Hawkeyes to two finals appearances. Despite losing all those matches, including one from Boston and South Carolina, the star point guard’s legacy continued to shine, achieving 3,951 points and averaging 28.9 per game, the most in college women’s basketball.
Even if Clark and Boston united in the Fever, the two never had any hostilities–even leading the team to their best record and first playoff appearance since 2016. Both players were respective ROTYs of the WNBA; the former last season and the latter during the 2023 stint.
Caitlin Clark appreciative of college team retiring her jersey
As the Iowa Hawkeyes retire Caitlin Clark’s No.22 jersey next year, she showed gratitude for the milestone. Clark, who gained numerous achievements with the Hawkeyes, had her legacy firmed with the announcement, and she is honored to receive it.
“I’m forever proud to be a Hawkeye and Iowa holds a special place in my heart that is bigger than just basketball,” Clark said.
“It means the world to me to receive this honor and to celebrate it with my family, friends and alumni. It will be a great feeling to look up in the rafters and see my jersey alongside those that I’ve admired for so long.”
Caitlin Clark will visit the retirement of her jersey, which will occur during the Hawkeyes’ match against the USC Trojans next year, February 2.
Caitlin Clark in capable hands under new coach according to former Iowa Hawkeyes mentor
Former head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team, Lisa Bluder, is confident that Caitlin Clark will bond well with Stephanie White, Clark’s new coach in Indiana Fever.
In a Q&A interview with CBS Sports’ Jack Maloney, Bluder shares how White had already watched Clark’s every play and recognized its effect.
“Well, I think Stephanie, as a pro coach, probably saw her more than anybody because she was also doing television and she had a lot of our games. So she knew Caitlin better than all the other coaches, and I think she respected Caitlin more than the other coaches who hadn’t been around her as much,” Bluder said.
Bluder also believed that Caitlin Clark and White hold deep respect for each other, which is crucial in strengthening their relationship.
People will see Clark back in the WNBA action in May, seeing a refined performance of the star point guard under a new coach.
