Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese became notable for displaying promising plays for their respective teams in the ongoing WNBA season. The two rookies, rivals since the NCAA days, became the source of the media’s gossip. The two women’s relations became sensational.
The media recently established Clark and Reese as heated rivals despite playing for different positions. Dallas Wings star Arike Ogunbowale contradicted this far-fetched hype. In a recent interview with USA Today, Ogunbowale offered her own insights regarding this matter.
“I do think the Angel–Caitlin thing is funny. … They’re two totally different positions, and the media tries to make them be like competitors. It’s like, that’s a guard and that’s a post. So, at the end of the day, they never even guarded each other. It’s not really a ‘rivalry,’ but it’s just funny how people hype it up.”
Clark plays the point guard for her team, the Indiana Fever. As of her recent game against the Connecticut Sun, she had played and started in all of the Fever’s games. She averages 18.0 points with 41.4% in field goals and 33.0% in shooting from downtown.
The Iowa Hawkeyes alumnus also currently leads the league in assists per game, with 8.0. Her team placed third in the Eastern Conference and seventh overall in the WNBA, with 15 wins and 16 losses.
Meanwhile, Reese’s team, the Chicago Sky, is just one place down from the Fever. The 2023 NCAA Champion’s team is fourth in the same conference and eighth overall in the WNBA, with 11 wins and 19 losses.
Angel Reese averaged 13.5 points and 12.9 rebounds and started all of Sky’s 29 games. She needs help to provide offense, with 38.7% on-field goals and a poor 18.2% from downtown. She’s 74.0% on free throws.
Despite contrasting statistics, both young women never hesitate to aid each other. For example, they teamed up with other WNBA All-Stars to defeat the veteran-packed Team USA for the Paris Olympics.
Ogunbowale witnessed the teamwork between Clark and Reese as one of those All-Stars. Their relationship wasn’t as heated as the media portrays it.
Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese would confront each other in their upcoming games.
Despite the friendship between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, it’s different when they’re playing inside the court. Their teams, the Fever and the Sky, respectively, would compete against each other.
The location is at the Sky’s home court, where they’ll aim to secure their first win after devastating back-to-back losses, four in a row.
Meanwhile, the Fever seeks to secure their third consecutive win. So far, they’re gaining more victories after the recent league’s Olympic break.
