Connor McCaffery, Caitlin Clark’s fiance, showed full support for the Indiana Fever star during the heartfelt event at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena, where the Iowa Hawkeyes paid tribute to Clark’s legacy by retiring her jersey.
In press photos, McCaffery can be spotted with Clark in the front row, and even beside her during a post-event press conference.

Connor McCaffery also played for the Iowa Hawkeyes, for its men’s basketball team. After college, McCaffery diverted from the expected route of going for the NBA and pursued coaching instead. Among other reasons, he cited injury woes and his desire to become a coach more than becoming a player. He is currently an assistant coach for the Butler Bulldogs men’s basketball team.
During an interview after the event, Caitlin Clark was asked about how she dealt with all the criticism and words thrown her way. Among other reasons, she highlighted how she simply does not care, thinking that it simply is what life is.
“I think it’s just life,” she said. “Everybody goes through some of the things that I’ve gone through, a lot of people go through a lot worse. I just try to remind myself every single day how grateful I am to be in the position I am, I want to treat everyone the same way that I would want to be treated.”
Nobody’s faced or handled scrutiny better than Caitlin Clark the last 18 months
As for what she’s learned about herself:

“But also, I’ve said this before, I feel like one of my greatest skills is I really don’t care. Like, I don’t. I don’t care. I believe in myself, I’m confident in myself, I’m confident in my teammates, I try to instill that in them, I’m confident in the coaching staff of whatever team I was on, whether that was [at Iowa], whether that’s at the Fever now.”
Analyst on Caitlin Clark and Fever For 2025 WNBA Season: “They Will Play The Villain Role”
In one of the latest episodes of his program “Fearless,” analyst and critic Jason Whitlock likened the new lineup of the Indiana Fever to a team playing the role of villains.

“They will play the villain role in this race war that’s coming in the WNBA and people find that irresistible,” Whitlock said. “I am comparing the Fever to the Bad Boy Pistons. They’re the Bad Girls ’cause Caitlin Clark’s got an attitude and Sophie [Cunningham] got a bit of an attitude and trust me, DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard, they definitely got attitudes.”
Caitlin Clark will hit the court again for the 2025 season of the WNBA.
