Karl Smesko resigned as the head coach of the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles early in the 2024-25 season to take the head coaching position with the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream. He had been the Eagles’ head coach for 21 seasons. Raina Harmon will replace Smesko and become only the second coach in the history of the Eagles program.

Caitlin Clark Owes her Popularity to Her Being White, Says Analyst
ESPN analyst Monica McNutt, in one recent interview, talked about Caitlin Clark and her popularity, and went on to attribute most of it to her being “a white girl in the middle of America.”
“I think Caitlin represented—and again, some of this to me probably is not fair to her, because it was not anything that she said or was truly based on her personality—but she was a white girl from the middle of America,” McNutt said. “And so she represented a whole lot to many people, whether that is indeed what she ascribed to or not.”
“We can all say she’s a dynamic basketball player and a force both on the court and in a marketing sense,” she added. “But I do think the same thing applies to folks who may have fallen in love with Angel Reese; she may or may not have agreed with everything they had to say, either. We attach our fandom to these icons for all types of reasons, and sometimes they may not be based in truth.”

Caitlin Clark continues her preparations for the 2025 WENBA season with the Indiana Fever.
