Caitlin Clark‘s much-awaited return to the court was dominant, drilling 32 points in the team’s blowout win over the New York Liberty on Sunday. However, the Indiana Fever star’s stellar performance also became the source of a viral online rumor that she was drug tested after the game.
The speculation was made by the X/Twitter account NBA Centel, a well-known parody account notorious for making satirical and fake news that often “centeled” fans on a daily basis. However, their post regarding Caitlin Clark gained prominence, gaining 628k views and 24k likes.

NBA Centel got its name from the page NBA Central, which provides legitimate news, but is meant to confuse users. The page also claims it was featured on other valid outlets like ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and FOX Sports. They did put a note describing them as a “parody account,” but it isn’t enough to prevent viewers from being convinced of its satires.

Despite the increasing awareness of some basketball fans on Centel’s content, it’s undeniable that many more remain oblivious to its content. In other words, Caitlin Clark hasn’t, in any way, got drug tested after her spectacular game. She was tremendous throughout the match. She shot 11 out of her 20 shots, seven of which were three-pointers.

Moreover, the Fever overcame the Liberty’s momentum and had a hot 25-3 run in the third, completely immobilizing their opponents’ offense. They’re now 5-5 while handling New York their first-season loss.

Former WNBA player praised Caitlin Clark’s heroics vs Liberty
Speaking on ESPN’s First Take on Monday, WNBA icon Rebecca Lobo gave compliment to Caitlin Clark‘s standout performance against the Liberty. Lobo dubbed the 23-year-old superstar guard “exciting,” and what does it mean for the league’s viewership, which increased with her return.
“She’s certainly the most exciting player, certainly the most fun player to watch in the league,” Lobo said. “It means a lot more people are paying attention once again. We know how much Caitlin drives ratings. We know how much Caitlin drives attention on the WNBA. For her to come back and do it in that way was just ridiculous.”
“It was an exhibition by her after being out for 19 days to recover from an injury. Couple that with the other passes that she made and some of the other plays, it was just ridiculous. It’s not often that you’re watching the WNBA, or that I’m watching it, and I’m like, ‘Wow, I’ve just never seen this before,” Lobo added.

Seeking to continue Saturday’s victory, Caitlin Clark and the Fever will face the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday.
