Caitlin Clark made WNBA legend Diana Taurasi open up about “reality catching up” following the latter’s retirement from professional basketball.
During their live hosting and commentary for the NCAA Finals game, Caitlin Clark sent out her well wishes to former Phoenix Mercury legend Diana Taurasi.
“Congratulations on your retirement, D,” Clark said.
“Thank you,” Taurasi responded. “Unfortunately, reality is coming to me now.”
“Reality is coming,” the retired WNBA legend repeated. “You know, there [are] levels to this thing. And that’s just life, we’ve all been through it,” Taurasi said. “You see it on the NBA side, and you’re going to see it on this side. You look superhuman playing against some 18-year-olds, but you’re going to come with some grown women that have been playing professional basketball for a long time.”
“Not saying it’s not gonna translate,” she went on. “Because when you are great at what you do, it’s just gonna get better. But there is gonna be a transition period where you’re gonna need to give yourself some grace as a rookie. It might take a little bit longer for some people.”
