WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark displays her usual competitiveness in a friendly derby with her fellow Indiana Fever teammates. Despite not being included in the Team USA women’s basketball team for the Paris Olympics, the 2024 WNBA All-Star uses the offseason for her free time.
The confident Clark confidently shared her experiences in her recent easygoing match. She had a lot of fun playing against her teammates without feeling the pressure they’re under when they’re playing in the WNBA.
“Today we had a home run derby, of course I won. It’s just little fun competitions that are outside of basketball where you can just let loose and have fun and compete against your teammates.”
Caitlin Clark also spends most of her time bonding with her teammates outside of basketball. Even at a scavenger hunt, she retains her competitive nature, taking command of the group. However, her team came last since she was too excited before they could even start.
Everyone knows Clark’s confidence and competitiveness throughout her collegiate and professional career. As the point guard of the Iowa Hawkeyes, she led the Division I league in average assists for three consecutive seasons and carried the team into back-to-back Final Fours. Sadly, the generational talent never won a national championship.
Clark received many awards for her last two years at Iowa, including the AP Player of the Year, Honda-Broderick Cup, Honda Sports Award, and James E. Sullivan Awards. She was a three-time NCAA season scoring and assists leader throughout her four years. She was also the 2020 McDonalds All-American and three-time Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year in the NCAA.
The ambitiousness of the Indiana Fever’s point guard also reached the international stage. She is a two-time, back-to-back gold medalist of the FIBA under-19 World Cup. The 22-year-old was then drafted as the first overall pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft under the Indiana Fever.
A look at Caitlin Clark’s professional career
The 2024 WNBA regular season is still ongoing. So far, Caitlin Clark has played for all of Indiana as a starter. She averaged 17.1 points and 5.8 rebounds and currently leads the league in assists with 8.2. Ironically, she’s also the leader in turnovers per game.
She is also the first rookie to achieve a triple-double in the women’s basketball league. Clark also set the record for most assists in a single game, with 19 just last month.
After some rest, Clark and the Indiana Fever would face the Phoenix Mercury on August 17.
