The Indiana Fever visited the Chicago Sky and were victorious in the final game of their series. Caitlin Clark and company continued their hot streak, improving their season record to 16-16, going up to sixth place in the overall league standings.
Caitlin Clark had a humorous initial response to a question about the team’s confidence level following the 100-81 win over the Sky.
“Coming in hot, wow! Opening the door!” joked the 22-year-old star.
The rookie acknowledged the team’s all-time high confidence and talked about her and her teammates’ current mentality.
“I feel like we are confident, but that’s any team in this league when you are able to stack some wins. That’s everything,” Clark continued. “I think coming out of the break, we [started] with two big wins at home versus Phoenix and Seattle. Then we go on the road and drop one. But we knew Atlanta was a huge game for us and I thought we played really well there, so I’m just proud of our group,” she added.
Coach Christie Sides’ squad has been red hot after the Olympic break, winning five of their last six games, three of which were victories against teams with win percentages over 50%.
Caitlin Clark is taking charge of the Fever
Caitlin Clark has led the Indiana Fever’s charge since the WNBA season resumed. She recently went ablaze against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky and further cemented her legitimacy in the race for the Rookie of the Year award.
The Fever rookie set a new career high 31 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field including 5-of-9 from the three-point area and missing only one of 11 free throws. She tallied a double-double that night as she made 12 assists while also grabbing four boards.
In the season thus far, Clark is averaging 18.4 points and 5.7 rebounds. She also currently leads the league in assists, averaging 8.3 dimes per game.
Meanwhile, Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark’s rival in the Rookie of the Year race, has recorded another double-double despite the loss, finishing the game with 10 points and 11 rebounds with two assists. She’s currently averaging 13.3 points and 12.9 rebounds this season.
The Indiana Fever are now currently the sixth seed in the WNBA, while the Chicago Sky are in the perilous eighth seed, in danger of being unseated if they don’t win their next set of games. Both teams are scheduled to play on September 2, with Indiana facing the Dallas Wings and Chicago playing against the Minnesota Lynx.
