The Iowa Hawkeyes and Caitlin Clark will forever be intertwined with one another. Clark became a national icon while playing at Iowa, and that has transitioned into her time with the Indiana Fever. Clark is widely the most popular player in the WNBA, as a rookie.
However, it was something Iowa fans noticed that had everyone talking.
“This Is Not A Drill” Caitlin Clark Receives Massive News From Iowa (Report)
It was a big night for the Hawkeye women’s basketball team on Wednesday.
In addition to playing their first game of the 2024-25 season (91-73 win over Northern Illinois Huskies), they also played their first game without current Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark.
Jan Jensen’s first game as head coach, and the Iowa 2023-24 team’s trip to the Final Four, were honored with a banner in the rafters before the game:

But that wasn’t the only thing fans noticed:
Iowa announced that Clark’s jersey would be immortalized in her alma mater just three days after her final game at the school arrived.
“There will never be another 22,” the team wrote on social media, making Clark just the third player in Iowa women’s basketball history to have her number retired (along with Megan Gustafson and Michelle Edwards).
While the retirement ceremony date hasn’t been announced, Iowa appears to already have the banner hanging up, just waiting to be unfolded.
X user @ICHawkeye posted a photo of the wrapped banner with the caption, “Do you see what I see? #CarverHawkeyeArena”.
Speculation has begun as to when Clark will have her jersey retired and hung in the rafters. Clearly, Iowa is already ready for the big night.
