Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is yet to officially announce her participation in the upcoming first season of Unrivaled in 2025. While the rumor mill is not short on analysis and speculation on whether she is in or not, Clark herself sparked the hype anew with her new statement about the upcoming event.
Clark expressed in an interview on Monday that she has no pressure on herself on the topic of participating in Unrivaled, despite her name being one of the most awaited announcements for the new league.
“We’ll see,” Clark said. “I don’t know. Just taking it as it goes … see if I want to play eventually.”
Currently, two of Clark’s teammates in Fever have signed on to join Unrivaled: Lexi Hull, and 2023 Rookie of the Year Aliyah Boston. With more slots for players, Clark is a strong candidate to finally join the roster.
Unrivaled is a 3-on-3 women’s basketball event, an event that will cover the WNBA off-season dates. The final roster of 36 players will be revealed on November 20, and unlike other leagues, there will be no drafting. Instead, a committee will pick and group players according to position and skill. The first game will be played on January 17, 2025.
Caitlin Clark Will “Always Have a Spot” on Unrivaled
Earlier this October, Unrivaled president Alex Bazzell announced that it has expanded its roster from 30 to 36 players. This move was made ahead of the event starting in 2025. With more players coming in to fill that spot, Bazzell expressed his openness for Clark to finally drop the word and hop to the court with them.
“We’re always going to have a roster spot for Caitlin Clark,” Bazzell added. “We’re not applying a full court press the way people think. We are letting her decompress from basketball. … She knows that we have a spot for her when she’s ready.”
He added that they are already “proud of what we’ve built, and we’re in a position to succeed.” He added: “But if she played, she would take it to another level. She knows we would love to have her.”
The Unrivaled president said that the decision to expand the roster count was a business decision, though it also opened doors for more talents like Caitlin Clark to join them. “It has allowed us a lot more flexibility,” he said. “It was strictly a business decision; as we make money there will be more opportunities.”
