Caitlin Clark continues to break records despite the offseason, this time with an auction. Her trading card was sold for an unsurpassed amount, becoming the highest WNBA player & second all-time in women’s sports.
Goldin Auctions sold Clark’s 2024 Panini Select WNBA for $234,850, just behind tennis legend Serena Williams’ autographed patched card for $266,400 sold in 2022. The Indiana Fever star’s impact continues to skyrocket, even reaching the bargaining world.
According to the Athletic, sellers auctioned off four more Caitlin Clark trading cards for high amounts. The lowest one, the Panini Select Black Finite, was sold for $52,800. Another Panini card, this time about Clark’s ROTY card, was signed by her and was the highest before the Select.
Notice that all the highest Clark cards are from Panini. She has an exclusive partnership with Panini America and has a trading card set showcasing the best moments of her basketball career.
Given her effect, Caitlin Clark breaking an auction record is unexpected but possible. She notably boosted the WNBA’s viewership and popularity; one analyst contributed her to 25% of the league’s revenue.
Caitlin Clark responsible for swathes of the WNBA’s revenue according to analyst
Caitlin Clark undoubtedly made contributions to the WNBA’s viewership and popularity. However, according to Ryan Brewer of Indiana University Columbus, Clark also had affected the league’s revenue past season.
Indy Star asked Brewer regarding his research on Clark’s contributions to the WNBA’s financial world. The results were unparalleled, and the finance professor doubted his investigation.
“The numbers are so staggering. They don’t even seem real,” Brewer said.
Brewer’s discovery says more than a quarter of WNBA’s economic activity, including merchandise, attendance, and TV viewership, are attributable to Caitlin Clark, rising by 500% and 300%, respectively.
The Indiana Fever’s attendance also averaged a record 17,036 per game; her games are watched by 1.2 million viewers, significantly more than those without her on the court.
Caitlin Clark engages in banter with college teammate
Caitlin Clark slightly confronted Jada Gyamfi, her past teammate at the Iowa Hawkeyes. Clark almost led Gyamfi to block her socials after commenting on her TikTok video.
After spotting Gyamfi’s dance with Hannah Stuelke, Clark commented: “More film and sleeping. Less TikTok.”
Gyamfi responded, “I’m so close to blocking you on socials.”
Despite the exchange of words, the banter remains lighthearted. Clark and Gyamfi were solid teammates at the Hawkeyes, witnessing two consecutive national finals appearances.
Gyamfi continues to play for the Hawkeyes. She’s averaging 2.0 points and 4.6 minutes this season.
