One of the biggest reasons why the Indiana Fever are wallowing near the bottom of the 2024 WNBA season standings is ball security. Star rookie Caitlin Clark is a major culprit on that end, as she has 106 turnovers on the season — the most by any player in the league, and it’s not even close. Clark has 106 turnovers this season going into Friday. That’s 40 more than any player.
However, it can be unfair to just pin the blame entirely on Clark, who has so much responsibility on offense for the Fever. While she has a ton of turnovers, she is also second in the WNBA overall in total assists (126).

Those errors are part of Clark’s learning curve in the pros, as she continues to figure things out at this basketball level. Following the Fever’s 89-77 loss on the road versus the Seattle Storm, Clark led the Fever with 15 points to go with seven assists and six rebounds plus a block, while also committing six turnovers.
Caitlin Clark speaks up after Indiana Fever’s loss to the Seattle Storm

After the Seattle game, Clark said that she and the Fever had trouble executing on-ball screens.
Via Michael Voepel of ESPN:
“We played out of a lot of ball screens tonight,” Clark said. “So when you’re getting doubled on a ball screen, you’re always going to give it up. It should create an advantage for us 4-on-3 attacking the basket. But I didn’t think we played too well out of our ball screens tonight.
“I could definitely be a little more aggressive to the basket. But I think I’m just going to try to take what the defense gives me and try to set my teammates up for success, too.”
Clark will always get most of the attention of opposing teams, especially when she’s got the ball in her control, so it will be up to the Fever’s coaching staff to find ways to make things easier for the two-time Naismith College Player of the Year.
On the season, Clark is averaging 16.2 points, 5.5 rebounds,a nd 6.6 assists per game.
