Caitlin Clark left an undeniable legacy in women’s college basketball, breaking records and earning accolades with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Her feats placed her second in FOX Sports’ top-10 ranking this Saturday. However, sports journalist Jemele Hill disagreed, ranking Clark lower and advocating for another unmentioned superstar.
Hill expressed disappointment with FOX rankings on her X (formerly Twitter) account. Moreover, she argued that Sheryl Swoopes deserved a spot on the list rather than just an honorable mention.
“Sheryl Swoopes not being in the top 10 is crazy and as much as I love CC, she is not the second-greatest player ever. I’d put her anywhere between 5-8,” Hill tweeted.

Hill defended her stance when a user highlighted Caitlin Clark’s offensive impact and her role in leading the underdog Hawkeyes to multiple national playoffs. She emphasized that Swoopes had a similar, impressive collegiate career at Texas Tech, including a championship in 1993.
“But alas, Sheryl Swoopes. Sheryl Swoopes won the title at … Texas Tech. She was only there for two seasons, led the nation in scoring, and won a championship with a program that wasn’t considered elite. She didn’t play alongside another All-American, and I’m willing to bet … no other five-star recruits,” Hill argued.

The other inductees among FOX Sports’ are Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi, Cheryl Miller, Chamique Holdsclaw, Maya Moore, Brittney Griner, Candace Parker, A’Ja Wilson, and Lynette Woodward.

Meanwhile, Kelsey Plum, Sabrina Ionescu, Elena Delle Done, and Rebecca Lobo join Swoopes in the Honorable Mentions section.
Despite playing in different eras, Caitlin Clark and those at FOX’s ranking all emerged as legends who left a lasting impact on women’s basketball. Clark’s unique playstyle, ability to draw action, and global popularity continue to inspire the next generation of college talent.

Caitlin Clark fans not happy on FOX Sports’ ranking
Caitlin Clark fans were disappointed with FOX Sports’ top-10 all-time best women’s college basketball players list released last Saturday. The ranking put Clark in second, just behind Breanna Stewart, but many disagreed, voicing their opinions in the comments of X/Twitter.
“By what measure is Breanna Stewart better than Caitlin Clark?” one fan asked.

“Clark is the greatest and it isn’t even close. It’s easy to win championships with a loaded lineup of 4 and 5 star recruits. It’s an entirely different story to go to back to back national championship games with 2 and 3 star players,” another added.

On the other hand, some believed Caitlin Clark should be placed lower.
“Someone that never won a championship at 2 on a post during the NCAA tournament…” someone commented.

“If you want CC top 10 then fine. Her cracking the top-five is pushing it,” another said.
