Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has been weaponized and used for race-baiting content in the past, and her recent interview set itself apart by not catering to “certain demographics.” At least this is what one former Michael Jordan teammate thinks about the matter.
In a post on Instagram, former Washington Wizards center Etan Thomas gave his honest take on the issue of Caitlin Clark and her controversial “white privilege.”
“One of the many statements and interviews that didn’t allow that certain demographic to weaponize Caitlin Clark the way they wanted to,” he said in his post, as a reaction to Calrk’s recent interview with David Letterman. “Again, they weren’t real fans of the game, they only wanted to use Caitlin Clark as a symbol to fit their agenda and she ruined it for them.”
Caitlin Clark faced backlash after her comments in a TIME Magazine interview, where she acknowledged the privilege she experienced as a white player in the WNBA. She emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of Black women who have built the league and expressed her commitment to elevating their voices.
Clark and the issue of “white privilege” debate gained traction after her record-breaking NCAA championship game viewership in 2024, which drew comparisons to other players like Paige Bueckers. Some argued that Clark’s prominence was amplified by her race, while others defended her success as a result of her exceptional talent and captivating style of play.

Caitlin Clark Admits “Privilege” on Netflix Interview
In her guest appearance for an episode of “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman” on Netflix, Caitlin Clark opened up about a wide range of topics, including her controversial “white privilege,” which she addressed in front of the host, David Letterman.
“I’m obviously white, but I think I’m somebody who grew up a huge fan of this league,” Clark said. “I grew up watching this league, going to games, supporting this league. So I know where this league comes from: a lot of Black women that grew up making this league what it is. And that’s kind of the shoulders that we stand on.”
“So I think that was something I’m very aware of, and something I’m very thankful for. And they deserve all the credit, and the more we can give credit to them, the better. I’m very aware of that, and I know that, and I think there is responsibility in acknowledging that.”

During the interview, Caitlin Clark also talked about her bond with teammate Aliyah Boston, her exceptional court vision, and her comparison to LeBron James, among other things.
