The ongoing first season of Caitlin Clark at the WNBA draws in piqued spectators. Her recent successes, brought by her recent victories and high shooting, made some, including veteran analyst Nick Wright, believe that Clark should be automatically called the Rookie of the Year of the season, eclipsing all other contenders.
Clark’s excellent production for the Indiana Fever often results in victories. So far, her team has acquired 17 wins and 16 losses and an ongoing four-consecutive win streak. These crucial wins and her incredible plays and stats make the former Iowa Hawkeyes unique.
However, above all other batchmates, one person threatens Clark on the ROTY throne. That is none other than Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese, who also shows uniqueness on the court through her close shooting, coupled with excellent rebounding skills.
As a result, people contend between Clark and Reese about who will be genuinely awarded as the season’s best rookie. For Wright, this heated debate isn’t necessary since there’s already an answer, which is “unanimously” the representative of the Indiana Fever.
In his “What’s Wright?” podcast, the analyst implied:
“It’s just embarrassing. We have to be able to have honest conversations about sports even if it goes against some of our priors or some of our allies on the internet. … There should be two unanimous awards in the WNBA this year. The MVP should be unanimous to A’ja Wilson. Rookie of the Year should be unanimous to Caitlin Clark.”
Wright’s insights are part of an ongoing intense discourse between WNBA analysts and fans on who to pick between Clark and Reese as the season’s ROTY. Things slightly escalated when, on Sunday, WNBA legend Lisa Leslie gave her own opinions about the mentioned debate.
According to the former Los Angeles Sparks, both young women deserve to be awarded the best rookies of the season because of their unique achievements and contributions to the league.
A look at the recent showdown between Caitlin Clark’s Fever and Angel Reese’s Sky
Last August 31, Caitlin Clark and her team engaged in their fourth match against Reese’s on the opponents’ homecourt.
The Indiana Fever dominated the Sky, winning 100-81. The match saw Clark and Reese display outstanding productions, a testament to the ongoing clash on the ROTY award.
Clark made a career-high 31 points and 12 assists in that match. Her competitor, Reese, made a record for the most rookie double-doubles.
After their victory against the Dallas Wings, the Fever would be against the Los Angeles Sparks, hoping to continue their win streak.
