Stephanie White candidly reacted on sharing the No.22 jersey with Caitlin Clark, which White also wore during her playing days with the Indiana Fever. During Wednesday’s media appearance, the now Fever head coach recalled her time with the team and shared her roles with the team then.

After leaving the Fever as a player in 2004, White returned to the team in 2011 as an assistant coach, seeing the team win the championship the following year. She became the head coach in 2015, bringing Indiana to another finals appearance but losing. She left the team in 2016.

White responded to a reporter asking her who the original “No.22” was when the Fever had its debut season in 2001.

“I might know who that was,” White said. “Yeah… I sat on the bench a lot… I played a lot of different roles.”

The former Purdue player also reflected on the current excitement surrounding Caitlin Clark and women’s basketball. She believed the WNBA’s growth was what she and the players had long envisioned.

“To see where the league is now — it’s what we always thought it would be, should be, could be. I’m just thankful I’m still part of it.”

The Indiana Fever defeated the Los Angeles Sparks, 93-86.

The Fever has the right talent ahead of the season. With rising stars like Caitlin Clark and veterans like DeWanna Bonner, White still needs to maximize them and bring them to postseason success–the last time the Fever went past the first round was during her previous tenure.

Caitlin Clark reveals her ultimate goal ahead of the season

Caitlin Clark had made herself clear on her objective ahead of her second season in the WNBA, telling the reporters during the media appearance on Wednesday that the team is focused on the championship hunt.

Now, with experienced teammates and a new coach, Clark is more determined than ever to add another milestone to her resume. She doubled down on saying that winning the trophy is her success for 2025.

“Yeah, absolutely,” Clark said. “… A championship.”

“have you guys been explicit so far about wanting to win a championship this year?”

    caitlin: “yeah. absolutely.”

    “what does success look like?”

    caitlin: “championship. mhm.”

Caitlin Clark has long prepared for the season. One of the biggest stories is her physical development. She revealed her insights regarding her off-season training after the Fever’s training camp last week.

“I mean, that was my biggest focus on the offseason, just trying to get stronger and really working on that…,” Clark said.

“We were in here consistently, I think that was the biggest thing for myself, just having that consistency to be able to work on it for six months or whatever it was. I certainly feel stronger.”

Caitlin Clark and the Fever will return to the court in a preseason match against the Washington Mystics this Saturday. They’ll host the Chicago Sky in their first match on May 18.
