Aari McDonald has proven her value for the Caitlin Clark-less Indiana Fever, taking over the superstar guard’s duties without struggle. However, McDonald’s stint with the Fever remains temporary, and if fans want to see her stay with the team, then a player must be released in return.
After the Fever sidelined Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham due to injuries, the Fever signed McDonald via emergency hardship exception to fill the 10-player requirement. After the exception expires, the team must wait 10 days to cut an unprotected player and re-sign the former Arizona Wildcat.
Indiana currently has three unprotected players, and they could cut for the one roster spot where they could sign McDonald. The team needs to cut since their cap space isn’t enough. Those players are Syndey Colson, Makayla Timpson, and Brianna Turner, but the possibility remains unlikely.

People turned to Turner, who hadn’t played many minutes with the Fever, requesting that the team waive her. The former Notre Dame immediately caught up on this, going to X/Twitter to respond to the calls.
“I think it’s important to do your own research & reach independent conclusions in reference to all the chaos that gets trendy on social media. And I don’t mean ask an ai chatbot 🙃,” Turner tweeted.

Turner averages 0.5 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 0.5 assists this season.

Meanwhile, McDonald averages 11.0 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals in her three games with the Fever. With Caitlin Clark and Cunningham’s return to the court soon, the 26-year-old could opt for a standard contract, although chances are that it’ll be with a fresh team. Drafted third overall in 2021, she played for two seasons with the Atlanta Dream before going international. She last played for the Los Angeles Sparks in 2024.
Caitlin Clark candidly shared her feelings amidst recovery
After more than two weeks of being sidelined due to her left quad injury, Caitlin Clark will finally return to the court on Saturday against the undefeated New York Liberty. When asked about gaining full composure after coming from a hindrance, Clark made her feelings clear about it.
“It’s definitely been a process,” Clark said. “I think the hardest part is when you begin to feel really good, and then it’s just the process of working yourself back into actually getting up and down and getting out there with my teammates. And obviously that can be a little difficult, at the same time, when they’re prepping for their games that I’m not going to be available in.”

Caitlin Clark, averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 9.3 assists in four games, will seek to end the Liberty’s nine-game winning streak.
