“They Made Me Feel Really Needed”: Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston’s New Teammate DeWanna Bonner Reveals How Fever’s Young Stars Made Her Feel Comfortable

Caitlin Clark proved to be a warm teammate, as veteran DeWanna Bonner expressed her appreciation to Clark and other Fever star players for making her “feel wanted.”
In a recent interview, WNBA veteran DeWanna Bonner shared the warm welcome she got from the big 3 of the team—Clark, Aliyah Boston, and Kelsey Mitchell—and her intention of sharing what she can from her veteran experience with the young stars.
“I talked to Caitlin, [Aliyah Boston], and [Kelsey Mitchell] and they made me feel like they really needed me here,” Bonner said. “At this point in my career, I have so much knowledge, so why not give it to some young ones before I leave out?”

DeWanna Bonner has been playing in the WNBA for 16 seasons, making her one of the league’s longest-tenured players. She was drafted 5th overall in 2009 by the Phoenix Mercury, where she won two championships in 2009 and 2014. Bonner spent 10 seasons with the Mercury before being traded to the Connecticut Sun in 2020, where she played for five years.
Over her career, she has earned six All-Star selections and climbed to fourth on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list, surpassing Fever legend Tamika Catchings. Bonner signed with the Indiana Fever in 2025 as a free agent, reuniting with head coach Stephanie White, whom she played under in Connecticut.

Caitlin Clark Wants to Win a Championship for DeWanna Bonner
In a recent press interview, Caitlin Clark expressed her desire to win a championship for the 2025 season. Not only for the sake of winning it, but also to dedicate it ti her veteran teammate DeWanna Bonner.
“She’s such a selfless leader,” Clark said, talking about Bonner. “She’s here to win. She says that, but she really means it,” Clark said of Bonner. “DB’s been tremendous, not only as a leader, she’s a tremendous basketball player, too. She’s won championships. She knows what it is.”
“For me, as a second-year point guard, I want to win for her. This is the end of her career, she deserves it.”

Clark had an impressive rookie season in the WNBA, leading the Indiana Fever to their first playoff appearance since 2016. However, their championship hopes were cut short in the first round of the playoffs, where they faced the veteran-heavy Connecticut Sun.

During the 2024 season, Caitlin Clark averaged 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game, leading the league in assists and finishing seventh in scoring. Clark also showcased her shooting ability, hitting 34.4% from three-point range and 90.6% from the free-throw line.
