Cam Johnson Attracting Interest From 5 Surprising Teams

Nets forward Cam Johnson has been on the radar for a few ‘hopeful’ contenders around the league. The Brooklyn Nets are entering their rebuild era after nearly a decade’s worth of attempts to contain the relevancy of competing in the league.

Ever since the organization traded away its most valuable asset Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks, the Nets don’t have a single name on their roster that they aren’t looking to ship away for hope at a brighter future.

Per Brian Lewis of the New York Post The Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, and the Orlando Magic have all shown a strong amount of interest in Brooklyn’s 28-year-old forward. They join a list with the Indiana Pacers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Toronto Raptors.

    Per Brian Lewis:

“The day the Nets traded Johnson’s longtime friend Mikal Bridges and signaled their intent to tank, that put veterans such as Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith, Dennis Schroder, Ben Simmons and Bojan Bogdanovic on the trade block,” Lewis stated.

Johnson has 3 years and $69 million left on his current deal and with Brooklyn entering a new stage, we’ll likely see him traded before the start of next season.

What Cam Johnson Provides to a Contending Team

    Cam Johnson, Brooklyn Nets

Giving out consistent production on offense with his slick ability to create space and knock down shots from anywhere on the court as well as on defense where he’s proven to be a lockdown attacker who isn’t afraid of taking on the opposing team’s star player.

In 58 games played last year with the Nets, Johnson averaged 13.4ppg on a 44.6%fgp to go along with 4.3rpg. While these aren’t exactly numbers a star would produce, he isn’t being asked to be a star player. Simply being a player a team can rely on down the stretch goes a long way in the league and his 5 years of experience, Johnson has consistently done that, whether it be from the bench or the starting line-up.

The Lakers are the ideal team to land Johnson as he would fall back into the role he saw with the Phoenix Suns that he thrived in and showed signs of great potential. The Kings are also a team that could utilize him quite well. He would likely see roles in the starting lineup throughout the season and prove to be a valuable piece the Kings can lean on in the postseason.

Despite all of the rumors, we’ll likely see Cam Johnson traded within the next coming months as well and the Nets have no use for him given their rebuilding and selling their valuable assets.

What team do you think could use Cam Johnson’s talents the most and who would you like to see him suit up for in the 2024-25 NBA season? Let us know in the comment section and follow us @HardwoodHeroics for more basketball content.
