Brooklyn Nets shooting guard Cam Thomas broke his silence about his exclusion from ESPN’s “Top 25 Under 25” list, which showcased their pick of the best young players in the league right now. While disappointed with how the list went, Thomas chose to focus on things that matter the most to him.
In a statement he gave to an interview courtesy of Nets reporter Erik Slater, Thomas said that his numbers and performance speak for themselves, implying that his inclusion should come with “no debate or discussion.”
“If you look at the numbers and look at what I do against everybody I play against, there’s no debate or discussion,” Thomas said.
Despite this, Thomas still believes in himself and promises to keep doing his best and to “help the team win the best way I can.”
“I just know what I do and I’ll just keep believing in myself,” he continued. “I just want to help the team win the best way I can. So I don’t really care about a list or anything. As long as your peers know that you’re one of the best players, then that’s all that matters to me.”
The ESPN Top 25 Under 25 list is an analysis report released by the broadcast company that aimed to present the youngest players in the NBA right now with the brightest potential. At the top of the list was Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs. The top five included Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner of Orland Magic, and Chet Holmgren of the Oklahoma City Thunder, in consecutive order.
At the bottom of the list were Atlanta Hawks point guard Dyson Daniels at #23, Houston Rockets forward Tari Eason at #24, and Washington Wizards shooting guard Bilal Coulibaly at #25.
Does Cam Thomas’ Performance Stack Up?
The Brooklyn Nets are not on their best performance for the 2024-2025 season, but the same could not be said for Cam Thomas and his personal numbers.
So far this season, Thomas is averaging 24.7 points per game, 3.4 assists, and 3.2 rebounds. He shoots from the free-throw line at 86.5%, 46.1% of his field goals, and 39.2% from beyond the arc.
While he faced injury challenges with his hamstring hindering his performance and availability, he raimed to be one of the top players the Nets have relied on for most of the games he played in.
