Los Angeles Sparks star Cameron Brink got honest about her take on the issue of roster capacity in the WNBA, in light of the recent move made by the Las Vegas Aces.

During the new episode of her podcast “Straight to Cam,” hosts Cmaeron Brink and Sydel Curry-Lee gave their opinion on WNBA roster limitations, in light of Deja Kelly getting waived by the Las Vegas Aces.

“It’s so unfortunate that the roster can only hold 12. Personally, I think roster sizes need to be expanded before we add any more expansion teams,” Brink said. “It’s kind of crazy. … 12 people for a roster. … it’s insane.”

“You have nine active players going into the second game of your season,” Sydel said.

Deja Kelly was waived by the Las Vegas Aces due to the WNBA’s limited roster spots and intense competition. Despite an impressive preseason performance—where she averaged 12 points per game and even hit a game-winning shot against the Phoenix Mercury—the Aces had to make tough roster decisions.

The WNBA has a roster limit of 12 players per team due to financial constraints and salary cap restrictions. With only 12 teams in the league, there are a total of 144 roster spots available, making it highly competitive for players to secure a place.

The league operates under a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) that dictates team budgets, and many teams struggle to afford carrying a full roster of 12 players, often opting for just 11 to stay within financial limits. This limitation has led to calls for expansion, as many talented players are unable to find a spot in the league despite their skills.

When Will Cameron Brink Make a Comeback?

Cameron Brink is expected to return to the court sometime in June 2025, following nearly 11 months of recovery from her ACL injury. While the Los Angeles Sparks have not provided an official return date, Brink has been dropping hints through social media, showcasing her strength and progress.

Her recent posts highlight her toned physique, signaling that she has been working hard to get back into game shape. Sparks fans are eagerly anticipating her comeback, especially as the team struggles with early-season inconsistencies.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding her exact return date, Brink remains optimistic and determined to make a strong impact upon rejoining the Sparks. Her presence on the court will be crucial for the team, particularly in defensive plays and rebounding.

With the return of Cameron Brink on the horizon, Sparks fans are hopeful that she will help turn the season around and bring the team back into playoff contention.
