Cameron Brink was revealed to be the latest addition to the roster of players for the upcoming 3-on-3 women’s basketball league, Unrivaled, as a wildcard member for the Lunar Owls. A little more than a month before the new league debuts, the Los Angeles Sparks star cited one person close to her as a major factor in making the decision to join the new league.
In an interview with People, Cameron Brink revealed how Golden State Warriors star player Steph Curry was a factor in her joining Unrivaled.
“When the league was just forming, we did chat about it — and yeah, I think Steph is in full support of it,” Brink said about Curry’s influence on her decision. “He thinks it’s a great idea and he knows I love the round three basketball.”
Cameron Brink got Steph Curry as his godbrother out of the close family history between their parents. Cameron’s and Steph’s parents were long-time friends and both have committed to be godparents to each other’s children, thus the relationship between the two basketball stars.
“It’s just a really great way to train in a different way and build up your skill, not playing five-on-five,” Brink says of the game. “It’s just going to be completely different and I think it’s really going to aid people with their skills, everything. So yeah, [Curry] thinks it’s a really cool thing.”
However, as she is still recovering from a torn ACL, an injury which ended her WNBA rookie season prematurely, she will not be part of the inaugural season of Unrivaled and will join next year instead.
With more than a year to prepare for her debut in the new league, Cameron Brink sees this as a great opportunity and a “year for growth” to train with new people around her, citing that “iron sharpens iron.”
Cameron Brink on “Unrivaled” Hopes
As she gets ready to get back inside the court and join a new league, he also expressed in her People interview her hopes for Unrivaled and women’s basketball overall.
“I hope it just brings more eyes to the sport, and honestly, more eyes to three-on-three,” she said. “I think it just brings great eyes to different types of basketball. It’s not your regular five-on-five. It is going to be more fast-paced, it’s going to showcase people’s talents in a different way.”
Come 2026, Cameron Brink will join her teammates for Unrivaled. The Lunar Owls will be composed of Skylar Diggins-Smith, Allisha Gray, Napheesa Collier (co-founder of Unrivaled), Natasha Cloud, and Shakira Austin.
