Toronto Raptors, who are dealing with injuries to multiple players, might gotten themselves a steal with their new signing. What’s even more impressive is this man could be living his dream now.
The Raptors signed AJ Lawson who has some NBA experts raving after his successful G-League stint with the Long Island Nets.
Canadian fans should instantly fall in love with this game, not only because of his dedication to reach the big stage but also because of his background as a Raptor fan.
A long-time female Raptor fan who claimed to be Lawson’s grade school classmate posted a story on X about their new player to share how the 24-year-old once lost the chance to discuss his favorite team.
“In grade 9 i chose to do a presentation on raptors basketball and since i took the topic this dude in my class couldnt take it, and now that dude is on the raptors LOL,” wrote @PaperBagArsh.

Lawson went to GTA Prep in Mississauga. The story checks at least on that part.

Who is this new Toronto Raptors signing?
Lawson was signed by the Raptors as an answer to injuries to Immanuel Quickley and Scottie Barnes.
He went undrafted in 2021 but he continued working. He briefly played for the College Park Skyhawks in G-League and the Guelph Nighthawks in Canada before finding his way back to the top American basketball league via the Minnesota Timberwolves.
He got a regular NBA gig eventually as part of the Dallas Mavericks where he played from 2022 to 2024.
He played 42 games last season and averaged 3.2 points per game.
Lawson went back to G-League to remain close to his NBA dreams and he did the work.
The 6’6 guard averaged 24.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per game in 11 games in the developmental league, all of them a starter.
