Frequently, sons of NBA superstars would not be as successful as their dads, but Carmelo Anthony hopes it will not be the case for his son Kiyan.
In an interview with Rachel Nichols in the All the Smoke podcast, Anthony, who primarily starred for the Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks, believes his son would have a better career than him.
“I hope so,” Carmelo Anthony said when asked if Kiyan could be a bigger name in the pros.
The six-foot-eight forward added, “I mean, better is relative, right? Better—you have to go through a lot to be better in the sense of longevity, career, and what you have to go through on a day-to-day basis. The prep—it takes a lot to go into being great.”
Kiyan Anthony, listed as a six-foot-five shooting guard, is currently the number one prospect from New York State for the class of 2025.

Carmelo Anthony has been hands-on in helping his son, who is currently studying at Long Island Lutheran High School, improve his game.
“It seems like he has a head start, so it’s beautiful to see that he has that head start, and I can just meet him where he’s at and give him the steps that he needs,” the elder Anthony continued.

Carmelo Anthony liking son get different identity
One reason why the offsprings of NBA superstars struggle to become stellar in their rights is due to the pressure of having to match their fathers’ significant contributions to the league.
Although Kiyan Anthony could only become eligible for the NBA Draft as soon as 2026, his dad Carmelo is already happy that his son has quickly stepped out of his shadows.
“I just love the fact that he’s able to have his personality, kind of build his fan base and people who are going to watch and follow him,” the elder Anthony said.
Both Carmelo and Kiyan Anthony were seen at the Accor Arena in Paris watching Team USA in action in the Paris Olympics men’s basketball playoffs.
The younger Anthony even got to greet his father’s good friend and fellow 2003 NBA draftee LeBron James at one point during Team USA’s quarterfinal game against Brazil.
However, after finding out that the Anthonys also bought tickets for Team USA’s semifinal game against Serbia, Bogdan Bogdanovic took it as an opportunity to do some showboating in front of the three-time Olympic champ.
After hitting a three-pointer that helped Serbia build a huge second-quarter lead against Team USA, Bogdanovic, also the Atlanta Hawks’ primary sniper, stared at Carmelo Anthony and did his take of the “three to the dome” goal celebration.
Anthony technically got the last laugh. Behind the heroics of James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant, Team USA fought back from 17 down to relegate Serbia to the bronze medal game while setting up a showdown against host country France for the gold.
