Charles Barkley, former basketball player, and current day NBA analyst, recently discussed what he felt about ‘superteams’ in the NBA. Over the last few seasons, franchises have been hell-bent on creating teams full of already talented and strong players who are ready for championship-level games right from the beginning.
However, this is only a recent trend, with earlier NBA teams instead trying to draft in fresh talent and train them up to be powerful stars later. In a recent episode of Mark Jackson’s podcast, Barkley openly confessed that he felt that ‘superteams’ is definitely cheating.
“You know, I hate superteams because it’s cheating. If they had told me back in my day that it would be held against me, I’d have said, ‘Well, I want to play with Michael Jordan, Bird, or Magic.'”
“If they’re going to say I didn’t win, let me know that beforehand, not after the fact. I’d have loved to team up and win. … If you ask Bird and Magic, their legacy is built on competing against each other. … There’s no shame in losing to [Michael], the greatest player ever. We got our shot, and it was a hell of a game.” Charles Barkley said on Mark Jackson’s Come And Talk 2 Me.
Charles Barkley also discussed the highs and lows of his career on the interesting podcast episode. Despite finishing his career without a championship, Barkley has steadfastly managed to be a solid analyst of the sport after his playing career. Perhaps Barkley is known more for his quips and wisecracks on TV more than his time as a player on the hardwood by fans and critics.
Charles Barkley Buys Everyone Free Drinks After Fredonia Blue Devils Win
Patrons at a local bar in Fredonia, New York, were treated to free drinks by Charles Barkley after their local college hockey team – the Fredonia Blue Devils, won a recent game. Barkley also took a mic and said a few words of praise about the Blue Devils. The basketball legend went on to say that drinks were free for the next five songs, which brought on more smiles and cheers from the crowd.
Barkley is definitely a sports enthusiast. However, this action of his was quite unexpected since the NBA analyst usually does not miss an opportunity to shame New York and any team that has anything to do with the city. Last year, Barkley could be heard saying that the city is definitely overrated, including New Yorkers.
