The Charlotte Hornets come into the 2024-25 NBA season with low expectations. Other than appointing Charles Lee to become their next head coach and Kemba Walker as part of Lee’s staff, the team hasn’t done much this summer that will move the needle.
This offseason, the Charlotte Hornets brought in Josh Green and Reggie Jackson via trades and Taj Gibson via free agency while re-signing Miles Bridges to a three-year deal and Seth Curry to a one-year contract. During the 2024 NBA Draft, the team selected Tidjane Salaun with the No. 6 pick and KJ Simpson with the No. 42 pick.
Despite this, ESPN’s Zach Lowe offered a positive outlook for the Charlotte Hornets on the latest episode of The Lowe Post.
“I think Brandon Miller’s going to be really good. He’s a really good two-way player, and Charles Lee, I think, will do a good job. I think they’re an interesting team. They’ve always been one of the sleeping giants of the league to me because players like that market,” Lowe said.
“It’s a good place to live. It’s a cool brand dating back to when they went teal and all of that. It’s a good atmosphere, and it’s a good crowd. You mentioned the Raptors as sort of the geek’s team, and the Hornets are going to be that,” he added.
The Charlotte Hornets have a good foundation in place
Fans at Charlotte should be buzzing because they now have a viable core to build on. Besides the players we mentioned, the Charlotte Hornets still have their young stars LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller.
LaMelo Ball is the de facto point guard for the team. However, he has struggled to stay healthy recently, as he only played 22 regular season games in 2023-24, averaging 23.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 8.0 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.
Meanwhile, Brandon Miller was one of the best rookies in the league, averaging 17.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game in his debut campaign.
