Chennedy Carter caused some controversy with her post on X on Tuesday. Many believe her post about “consistently making layups” was a dig at her former Chicago Sky teammate Angel Reese, who is known for struggling with such shots.
After a flood of reactions on her post, Carter went to clarify things about her post, saying that she was talking about no one else but herself. She explained her post in a recent X Spaces talk with fans and analysts.
“Angel is a special player. I love watching her. This season, we had a great relationship and I don’t feel like the way things went on Twitter, it shouldn’t have went like that,” Kennedy Carter said.
“I was specifically speaking of me. I’m a valuable player because the closest shot on the court is the layup or the mid-range and that’s what I specialize in doing.”
According to WNBA stats, Angel Reese had the league-worst record of 136 of 321 layups made (42.4%) last season, garnering the 6-foot-4 forward significant criticism from fans. Meanwhile, Chennedy Carter made 123 or 60.3% of her 204 layups, the second-best record among guards standing 5-foot-10 and below.

Reese and Carter showed great chemistry on and off the court last season, and the “Chi-Town Barbie” had nothing bad to say about their partnership in the Sky.
“That’s the Chenn to the Barbie. I love Chennedy so much. She brings so much energy. She’s probably the fastest player I’ve ever played with in the league,” Reese said/ “We have similar stories. We’ve been through a lot of things. We understand each other.”

Carter failed to receive a qualifying offer from the Sky for the upcoming season, leading many to believe that she was taking a shot at Reese in her X post. A report also came out, claiming that her “behavior” and then-coach Teresa Weatherspoon’s “leniency” toward her contributed to a “toxic environment” within the team.
Chennedy Carter is thankful for her Chicago stint
Now an unrestricted free agent, Chennedy Carter is free to sign with any WNBA team after Chicago Sky GM Jeff Pagliocca excluded her from receiving a qualifying offer. Despite the situation, Carter had nothing negative to say about her stint in Chicago.

“I came to a new organization. I was embraced. I was loved. I came from playing eight minutes to playing, doing a lot of things for the organization that I really love and respect for giving me the opportunity. The narratives of me being unhappy and this and that can’t be possibly true.”
Waived by the LA Sparks in 2023 due to “poor conduct,” Chicago offered Carter a training camp contract and 2024 and eventually earned a spot in the Sky’s roster. She became a starter for the Sky after Marina Mabrey was traded to the Connecticut Sun last July.
