“Just Got To Stay Patient”: Chennedy Carter Opens Up On Waiting For WNBA Contract Offers

Former Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter finds herself in uncertain territory as the 2025 WNBA season approaches. After a standout year, the Sky opted not to renew her contract, making her an unrestricted free agent. Despite the setback, Carter remains optimistic, believing that something promising is still on the horizon.

In a candid interview with popular streamer N3ON, posted on YouTube this past Sunday, Carter opened up about her current situation and gave fans a deeper understanding of the emotional toll and unpredictability of free agency.

When asked why she still remains unsigned, Carter kept it real. “I don’t know, y’all. I think sometimes that’s just the way things play out,” she said. “I think you just got to stay patient and keep watching, though.”

Chennedy Carter has good reason to stay hopeful. She’s coming off what she described as “the best season of my life.” In 2024, she led the Sky in scoring, averaging 17.5 points per game on an efficient 48.7% shooting from the field. It was a season that reminded everyone why she was a top pick back in 2020 and showed her full potential as a dynamic offensive force.

However, she became an unrestricted free agent in January of this year after Sky decided not to renew Carter’s contract, and with the start of the WNBA season looming, Carter’s free agency might take longer than expected.

Chennedy Carter clears the air about her on-court collision with Caitlin Clark

In the same interview, Carter also addressed the controversial on-court collision with Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark from June 1, 2024—a moment that drew heavy media attention. After Clark had scored, Carter made contact from behind in what initially looked like a routine foul, but it was later upgraded to a Flagrant 1 upon league review.

Carter clarified there was no malicious intent. “You know, it’s a part of basketball,” she said. “Maybe something was said, and then maybe there was like a little clip of somebody yelling in my face… I just gave her like a little, ‘I’m here.’”

She added, “Things get blown up, the media runs with it. I don’t have anything against her—she’s a great player. And so am I. I was getting buckets all season, you know what I’m saying?”
