Last week, the Chicago Bulls acquired Josh Giddey in exchange for Alex Caruso, as the Oklahoma City Thunder were reportedly keen to trade him. Now that he is with the Chicago Bulls, the former No. 6 pick of the 2021 Draft is planning to relish his new opportunity.
“Being able to make the game easy for everybody, being able to get guys involved, distribute the ball and get other players confident around me is the thing I pride myself on doing,” Giddey said via Chicago Bulls writer Jamal Collier of ESPN. “I want to be the pass-first point guard I am.”
“They’ve got a lot of guys. Obviously: Zach (LaVine), DeMar. Coby was awesome, really emerged last year. Pat Williams, and then the young guys. There’s a lot of talent on this team. I’m looking forward to coming in, trying to immerse myself in it. And not take away from anybody but just help this team continue to grow and get better,” he continued.
Josh Giddey’s production and minutes dipped this season after a career year in 2022-23, averaging 12.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game on 47.5 percent shooting from the field.
Josh Giddey wants a prominent role with the Chicago Bulls
Josh Giddey revealed that he had talks with Oklahoma City Thunder GM Sam Presti about his long-term role with the team, which was the catalyst behind his trade to the Chicago Bulls.
“My role shifted a little bit. I was playing a lot more off-ball and kind of in a different role to what I’ve ever done in my career. So he spoke to me about, looking at potentially different roles, coming off the bench, running the second unit, and things like that,” Giddey shared via Will Gottlieb of CHGO Sports.
“I just said to him (Sam Presti), coming off the bench at this point in my career, it’s not something I’m trying to do,” he concluded.
The Chicago Bulls need a true playmaker with Lonzo Ball blighted by injuries, and they finally got one in Josh Giddey.
