The Chicago Bulls are facing a pivotal offseason. Atop their agenda is the future of DeMar DeRozan, who will become a free agent this summer.
There have been rumors about the six-time All-Star potentially moving on to greener pastures via free agency as the Bulls look to revamp their roster after another failed campaign.
Based on most recent reports, however, it appears that DeRozan’s future still lies in Chicago.
Chicago Bulls News: DeMar DeRozan Expected to Sign Extension
According to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, both the Bulls and DeRozan are currently working towards a contract extension. Apparently, both parties want to get a deal done:
“In general, the belief around the league is DeRozan will ultimately re-sign with the Bulls, given the team’s continued desire to compete, his role, and Chicago’s willingness to pay him,” Scotto wrote.
While this could prove to be good news for Bulls fans, there’s just no guarantee that DeRozan will remain in Chicago through next season. Until pen is put to paper, it’s still very much possible that the three-time All-NBA swingman decides to pack his bags and move on.
After all, there shouldn’t be any shortage of interested parties for DeRozan in free agency. At 34, this could very well be DeMar’s last big-money deal, so you can be sure that he will be squeezing every bit of it as much as he possibly can.
