Chicago Bulls vice president Arturas Karnisovas isn’t changing his mentality even as the team is slowly entering its rebuilding phase following the departures of DeMar DeRozan and Alex Caruso this offseason.
Given their current situation, it would make sense for the Chicago Bulls to tank games. However, Karnisovas reiterated during a recent radio interview that he’s not on board with the idea.
“We’re going to try to win every game,” Karnisovas said on WSCR-AM 670 on Wednesday. “Because going back to development – what goes into winning? And that’s the only way you can teach those guys how to win games, is going through that. With a lot of things to be determined, I think training camp will show a lot of things.”
The Chicago Bulls have a Top-10 protected first-round pick they owe the San Antonio Spurs in the 2025 NBA draft. If they don’t finish in the bottom third in the league next season, they will lose their lottery pick next year, which is projected to be much better than this summer’s class.
Chicago has been trying to win games, just as Arturas Karnisovas said, these past few years, but they missed the postseason for two consecutive seasons.
Chicago Bulls faces questions ahead of training camp
Health will be the determining factor in whether the Chicago Bulls are going to be competitive in 2024–25. Lonzo Ball hopes to make a successful comeback, while Patrick Williams is recovering from his foot injury.
Ball exercised his $21.4 million player option this offseason for 2024-25, while Williams signed a five-year, $90 million contract to stay in the Windy City.
Meanwhile, Zach LaVine has seemingly bought into the Chicago Bulls’ vision, as he has fully participated in the team’s summer activities.
