Many of the WNBA’s new fans are fixated on whatever Caitlin Clark’s doing right now, but Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese is another standout rookie in the class who is also getting plenty of attention.
Like her fellow rookie, Reese is doing her best to adjust to the speed and physicality of the pros. Her stats don’t pop out like Clark’s, so the comparisons will continue for much of the season. However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that she’s doing well with her new team.
While the 22-year-old forward is doing well for the Sky, she was yet to have a breakout game that showcases her abilities as a player. It eventually came as she put on a dominant display against her hometown team.
Angel Reese put on a dominant display for the Chicago Sky in her DC homecoming
Reese was entering the game against the Washington Mystics after a rough game that saw her get ejected with two technical fouls. While the second one was rescinded, it was clear that she wasn’t in the right head space during the game.
However, her game against the team an hour-and-a-half away from her hometown of Randallstown, MD saw the forward put on a different game.
Probably spurred on by friends and family who made the trip, she finished with a strong statline of 16 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and five steals. While she also incurred five fouls, it doesn’t put a meaningful stain on the incredible display she’s put on for the Sky.

It was an inspired performance that showed everyone why she was selected seventh overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Moreover, she’s also stood out as the only real competition Clark has for the Rookie of the Year award with her 10.9 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists.
It will be intriguing to see how Reese will finish her rookie campaign, but she and the Chicago Sky fandom hope this game is only a sign of better times.
