Chicago Sky rookie forward Angel Reese failed to extend her record-setting streak of double-doubles in the WNBA, as she fell two points short of stretching that run to 16 games during an 81-67 home loss to the New York Liberty on Saturday.
Reese finished with eight points on a salty 3/13 shooting from the field and 16 rebounds in 36 minutes. She also collected an assist and a steal.
Reese appeared to have a chance at reaching double-digits in scoring late in the game but her plan was foiled when the Liberty, despite being up by 14 points with seconds to go in regulation, sent multiple defenders at the former LSU Tigers star instead of just letting her get the points she needed to keep the streak alive.
Fans flood social media with reactions to Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese’s failed double-double attempt

A lot of fans have voiced their sentiments on Reese’s attempt to score extra points in a decided game and to the Liberty’s dedication on the defensive end of the floor amid their big lead.
“If she can’t score 10 points within the first 3 quarters as one of the tallest players then she’s mid man lol” – @Phillyqua886
“She had a chance earlier and literally airballed a point blank layup” – @VFL991
” Her team was down 14, it was obvious what she was trying to do. I dont blame AR for trying to keep the streak alive, but it is NOT the other teams fault for trying to keep her from scoring.” – @shendy456
“I wouldn’t let her statpad either lmao” – @ThisIsWenki
“That is generational statpadding and Liberty did what a real team should do. Respect to them🫡🔥” – @Sudharsan_ak
“Na, it is your job to not allow records to be set on your team. That is called having pride.” – @Hereforthetext
