American sports journalist and political commentator Clay Travis potentially running for president in 2028 to go against Stephen A. Smith is a rivalry that can be likened to the 90s music scene. At least, this sis what one sports analyst thinks of the matter.
In one of the recent episodes of his program “Fearless,” Jason Whitlock gave his honest reaction to journalist Clay Travis expressing interest in running for president in 2028, with the sole purpose of going against Stephen A. Smith.
“He’s being serious there,” Whitlock said. “He’s passing it off as a joke, but he’s being serious. These guys are all cut from the same cloth, you know. They’re very fungible in all their positions. They don’t really believe in anything and and so they’re very fungible.”
Whitlock’s guest host, Steve Kim, gave his take on the possible rivalry between Travis and Smith, giving 90s music references.
“So this would be Milli Vanilli against Vanilla Ice,” Kim said.
Milli Vanilli was a German R&B duo consisting of Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus, created by producer Frank Farian in 1988. They gained massive popularity with hits like “Girl You Know It’s True” and “Blame It on the Rain,” even winning a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1990. However, their success turned into a scandal when it was revealed that Morvan and Pilatus did not actually sing on their records, leading to their Grammy being revoked and their career collapsing.

Vanilla Ice, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, is an American rapper best known for his 1990 hit “Ice Ice Baby,” which became the first hip-hop single to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His success was short-lived, but he remained a pop culture figure, later transitioning into reality TV and home renovation shows.
Clay Travis Will Run for President, On One Condition
Clay Travis recently stated that he would run for president as a Republican if Stephen A. Smith, the ESPN personality, decides to run as a Democrat in the 2028 election. Travis expressed confidence in his ability to win, claiming he would defeat Smith in 40 states.

Travis humorously compared the hypothetical matchup to a sports rivalry, saying he would “wipe the floor” with Smith worse than the Lakers did with the Mavericks in a trade.
“A Stephen A.-like figure could have success in the Democrat Party,” Travis admitted. “And oh, by the way, if Stephen A. Smith runs for President of the United States in 2028 I might have to run too.”
Clay Travis is the founder of OutKick, a sports and culture platform, and co-hosts “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show.”
