After leading the Clemson Tigers to the program’s first appearance in the Big Dance since 2021, head coach Brad Brownell impressed the school enough to get an extension and a nice bump in his salary.
Via Chapel Fowler of The Herald:
Brownell, 55, who led Clemson basketball to only its second Elite Eight in program history and first in 44 years, received a five-year extension through April 2029 and a $500,000 boost in total salary for 2024-25 (from $3 million to $3.5 million).
Under Brownell’s new five-year, $20 million deal, his total salary will also automatically increase by $250,000 over the following four years, topping out at $4.5 million in 2028-29.
Clemson Tigers under Brad Brownell

The 55-year-old Brownell has been coaching Clemson basketball since 2010. Since then, the Tigers have made it to March Madness four times but have yet to do it in back-to-back fashion.
Their 2024 run in the NCAA tournament was the Tigers’ deepest yet under Brownell, as they reached the Elite Eight round. They came close to reaching the Final Four round but lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the regional final. Before that, the No. 6 seed Clemson defeated the No. 11 New Mexico Aggies in the first round, the No. 3 Baylor Bears in the second round, and the No. 2 Arizona Wildcats in the Sweet Sixteen.

In 454 games calling the shots for Clemson, Brownell has gone 265-189 for a 58.4 percent win percentage.
“I want to thank (athletic director) Graham Neff, President Jim Clements and our entire administration for their continued belief and confidence in me and my staff,” said Brownell in a statement after getting the extension.
“I am extremely proud of our recent success, both on and off the court, and there is not a better time than now to be a part of the Clemson family.”
