The Cleveland Cavaliers just keep on adding to their seemingly ever-growing list of victims in the 2024-25 NBA season. Still comfortably atop the Eastern Conference standings, the Cavs got a scare on Tuesday night when the Brooklyn Nets gave them quite a fight. The Cavaliers were down by 13 points at the half and entered the fourth quarter trailing Brooklyn by eight points.
Then Darius Garland decided to take over.
With Donovan Mitchell sitting out the game with a left groin soreness, Garland showed the Cavaliers the way to their 15th win in a row by pouring in 18 of his game-high 30 points in the fourth quarter. He shot 7-for-10 from the floor in the final period, where Cleveland outscored the Rocket Arena visitors, 31-18.
“He’s the clutch player of the year,” Cavs head coach Kenny Atkinson said after the game. “He just does it for us in the fourth quarter. He’s done it for us all year.”
That take from Atkinson got Mitchell’s approval.

Can the Cleveland Cavaliers set a new franchise record?

The Cavaliers tied a franchise record for the longest win streak with the victory against Brooklyn, and they have a chance to set a new mark on Friday. It is going to be easier said than done, though, as they will be facing one of the best teams in the league in the form of the Memphis Grizzlies on the road.
