The Cleveland Cavaliers are off to a sizzling start because they’ve won their five opening games this season, but Donovan Mitchell is striving for more since he wants to win another championship for the city.
Donovan Mitchell said he has drawn inspiration from LeBron James when the Los Angeles Lakers visited them last Wednesday since he was the first to do it.
“It’s history,” Mitchell said about James’ 2016 title run with the Cleveland Cavaliers. “What he did was historic. I was a fan of it. I was watching it.”
“Being the new face here, you want to have that feeling. I want to have that parade outside of the arena. You want to have those moments. It’s definitely the ultimate respect. It’s the first championship in 50-something years. You want to be the next one. Those are those moments you don’t forget,” he added via Evan Dammarell of ClutchPoints.
When the Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the Boston Celtics in the second round last season, there were murmurs that Donovan Mitchell wanted out of the team. However, he put those rumors to rest by signing a three-year, $150.3 million extension this summer to signify his long-term commitment.
Why the Cleveland Cavaliers are undefeated
The Cleveland Cavaliers are one of the two undefeated teams left in the NBA. This is not a coincidence because they have been superb on both ends of the floor.
According to Jordan Zirm of Sporting News, the Cleveland Cavaliers under head coach Kenny Atkinson are first in offensive rating (123.4), first in three-point percentage (41.1%), second in net rating (+17.7), and fourth in defensive rating (105.7).
The last time the Cleveland Cavaliers got off to a 5-0 start was in 2016, which eventually saw them going to the NBA Finals. It’ll be interesting to see how long can they extend their undefeated streak.
