The Cleveland Cavaliers will be entering the 2025 playoffs as one of the biggest favoriets to make it to the NBA Finals in the Eastern Conference. The combination of scoring and defense they have on the roster is expertly maximized by a talented head coach.
Donovan Mitchell is at the heart of everything good happening for the Cavs this season. The guard may not be lighting up the stat sheet with his scoring, but his unique blend of scoring and playmaking has become vital for the Cavs’ incredible regular-season record.

While the Cavs don’t only count on him to win them games, the injury he sustained late in the season made some fans nervous about his availability in the postseason. While the Cavs are a deep squad, they cannot hope to overcome their rivals in the East without him.
Fortunately for Cavs fans, the man himself released on update on what’s going on with his health.
Donovan Mitchell gets honest about condition ahead of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ playoff run

Jesse Cinquini of Cavaliers Nation first reported that there were insider information about the former Louisville Cardinal’s availability for the Cavs’ first-round series against whoever wins the final play-in spot.
Cinquini revealed that Mitchell’s mild ankle sprain is nothing to worry about. While he wouldn’t be playing in the Cavs’ regular-season finale to give him more rest for the most exciting part of the NBA season, fans should have no worries for their star’s condition.
Kenny Atkinson stressed the importance of giving his star guard rest for the playoffs, as reported by Akron Beacon Journal’s Nate Ulrich:
“If I was to tell you my thought, but I definitely want to talk to everybody and see where Don is and see how the ankle looks,” Atkinson said. “I mean, it looked better today already. It’s going to be a little bit, ‘What do you want to do?’ My personal opinion? I’ll tell you. I’d rather him err on the side of caution, and we’ve got seven days to prepare [between the April 13 regular-season finale and the playoffs]. We can do intrasquad scrimmages. We can do a lot of things to get ready. But, yeah, we’re going to make that decision [soon].”

While their final game against the Indiana Pacers wouldn’t see Mitchell suit up, the team’s current standing should more than make up for it. Moreover, they should want to have Spida primed to play postseason basketball and make a run for the Finals.
