Before Donovan Mitchell put pen to paper on his massive $150 million extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers, there were a lot of questions about his future with the team.
Some of them centered around his fit alongside All-Star point guard Darius Garland, who rumor has it, did not really enjoy sharing the backcourt with Mitchell. So much so, that there were reports about Garland supposedly wanting out of Cleveland.
Cleveland Cavaliers News: Darius Garland ‘Pissed’ About Donovan Mitchell Rumor
Well, according to Cavs insider Chris Fedor of cleveland.com, there’s just no truth to this malicious rumor. In fact, Garland was not at all pleased when he first heard about the allegations of his supposed unwillingness to play with Mitchell:
“I am not convinced that Darius wants out,” Fedor said on a recent episode of the Wine & Gold Talk Podcast (h/t Peter Dewey of Cavaliers Nation). “I’m not convinced that Darius is unhappy playing alongside Donovan. In fact, I had a source tell me that Darius was pissed when he read that and that came out because it wasn’t his own feelings.”
Whoever said that there’s some ill will between Garland and Mitchell just wasn’t speaking the truth — at least according to Fedor’s sources here.
Whatever the case might be, Mitchell and Garland now have another season ahead of them to prove that they can win together. They have not found ultimate success throughout their two-year union, and another early postseason exit for them in 2024-25 won’t sit well with either than fans nor other front office — especially after committing that much money to Mitchell.
