Isaac Okoro could be on his way out from the Cleveland Cavaliers, as it was revealed that he is a potential sign-and-trade candidate to monitor this summer.
According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Isaac Okoro could be the Cleveland Cavaliers’ latest casualty, as they aim to strengthen their wing depth, with Dorian Finney-Smith and Miles Bridges eyed as potential candidates.
“Amid Cleveland’s interest in Finney-Smith, it’s worth noting that Cavaliers forward Isaac Okoro is a potential sign-and-trade candidate to monitor in restricted free agency, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote in his latest article.
“A potential offer for Okoro above the non-taxpayer mid-level exception could make Cleveland think twice about retaining the 23-year-old stout defender, who’s coming off a career-high 39.1 percent from three-point range, with Evan Mobley eligible for an extension and Caris LeVert entering the final year of his contract,” he added.
Scotto also noted that Cleveland Cavaliers beat writer Chris Fedor appeared on his podcast last month, saying that the team may have already outgrown Isaac Okoro “in many ways.”
Isaac Okoro for the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2023-24
Isaac Okoro hasn’t fulfilled his full potential when the Cleveland Cavaliers selected him with the No. 5 pick of the 2020 NBA Draft, but he has improved over the past four seasons.
In 2023-24, the former NBA All-Rookie Second Team member averaged 9.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game on 49 percent shooting from the field, but he had a career-high 39.1 percent shooting from three-point land.
Since he is a restricted free agent, other teams can sign Isaac Okoro to an offer sheet. The Cleveland Cavaliers could either match such an offer to keep him or trade him to the Brooklyn Nets, where they’ll be able to get either Dorian Finney-Smith or Cam Johnson, some of their top trade targets.
