Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark was recently spotted courtside at a college basketball game, cheering on her boyfriend with her signature enthusiasm. The WNBA star’s presence added an extra layer of excitement to a match between the Butler Bulldogs and UConn Huskies.
The Huskies secured a thrilling 78-74 victory over Butler in Indianapolis. Alex Karaban was the standout player for UConn, scoring 21 points and hitting crucial three-pointers late in the game. This win marked the Huskies’ sixth consecutive triumph, improving their overall record to 10-3 and solidifying their position in the Big East Conference with a 2-0 record.
The game was a back-and-forth battle, with UConn initially establishing a 16-point lead. However, Butler fought back, tying the game at 63 with an impressive 8-0 run. Despite their efforts, the Bulldogs were unable to take the lead. Key plays from UConn’s Liam McNeeley, who added 17 points, and Hassan Diarra, with 12 points, helped maintain the Huskies’ edge as the clock wound down.
In the final moments, Karaban’s second three-pointer pushed UConn’s lead to 74-69, giving them a crucial cushion. Butler’s Andre Screen and Patrick McCaffery each scored 17 points, with McCaffery closing the gap late in the game with a driving layup. However, UConn’s McNeeley sealed the victory by hitting two free throws with just seconds left on the clock.
UConn’s performance from beyond the arc was particularly impressive, sinking 11 of 24 three-point attempts compared to Butler’s 5 of 15. This shooting success played a significant role in their ability to fend off Butler’s advances throughout the game.
