ESPN analyst Tim Bontemps urges the Dallas Mavericks to trade Anthony Davis this summer since the team is seemingly going nowhere after Kyrie Irving’s unfortunate ACL injury.

Dallas Mavericks fans want to see how the Anthony Davis-Kyrie Irving duo will work. But, with the two stars sidelined, Bontemps argued that the team would be better off trading Davis to get a huge haul of assets.
“I’m gonna be honest. I don’t think Anthony Davis should ever play for the Mavericks again. You shouldn’t play the rest of the season and they should trade him this summer,” Bontemps said on The Hoop Collective podcast.

“Okay, Kyrie Irving is gonna be a 33-year-old guard, who just had a catastrophic knee injury, and has a player option for next season. You basically have to write him off as being a major contributor for next season. At that point, Anthony Davis will have one year guaranteed left on his deal. He’s going to be approaching his 33rd birthday. This team has really no ability to contend as it stands now without a proper star next to Anthony Davis,” he added.
Dallas Mavericks in a major slump
The Dallas Mavericks’ 2024-25 campaign is in tatters due to injuries. They are on a three-game losing streak following losses to the Milwaukee Bucks (twice) and Sacramento Kings.

During their most recent defeat against the Milwaukee Bucks, the Dallas Mavericks only scored 107 points and conceded 137.
Klay Thompson had 28 points, four rebounds, four assists, and six three-pointers on 11-for-27 shooting from the field in the losing effort. Naji Marshall, Brandon Williams, and Max Christie added 22, 14, and 13 points.
