Dallas Mavericks guard Dante Exum has reportedly avoided a huge setback, as he is expected to be a full participant for Australia in the upcoming Paris Olympics.

The 29-year-old dislocated his finger during Australia’s final warm-up match against France. It happened midway through the second period after losing the ball following a drive past French forward Guerschon Yabusele.
Exum didn’t return to the game after that. Grant Afseth of Sports Illustrated said that Exum suffered a “compound dislocation” on his finger, but fortunately, he didn’t sustain a fracture.

ESPN’s Olgun Uluc added that Dante Exum won’t play against Spain in their Olympics opener, but the Dallas Mavericks guard is expected to return for the Boomers at some point in the group stage.
Dante Exum will be a key player for Australia in the 2024 Olympics
Dante Exum made his successful NBA comeback last season with the Dallas Mavericks in 2023-24, averaging 7.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game on 53.3 percent shooting from the field in 55 regular season games (17 starts).

Australia has a deep guard rotation, and Exum is a huge reason why with his ability to score and defend at a high level. With him currently sidelined, the Boomers will heavily rely on Patty Mills, Josh Green, Josh Giddey, and Dyson Daniels to fill the void.
“Any time one of your key pieces goes down there’s some degree of concern,” teammate Jock Landale said about Exum. “They’ve cleared him for play and Dante’s a pretty tough individual. He’s definitely a key piece of the puzzle for us.”
The Boomers are in the so-called “Group of Death” because they’re bunched with Spain, Canada, and Greece in Group A.
