The Dallas Mavericks continue to bolster their lineup during the offseason by adding a massive center. The team, which lost to the Boston Celtics in the recent NBA Finals, is still on a mission to win the championship and end its 13-year drought.
NBA Insider Chris Haynes reported that 7-foot-5 free agent Jamarion Sharp will be on the Dallas Mavericks for the next season. The massive center, who had been playing for the team at the NBA Summer League, will finally have a chance to compete in the real NBA along with stars Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson.
“Undrafted free agent center Jamarion Sharp – tallest player in college at 7-5 – has reached an agreement on a one-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks, his agent Scott Nichols of @Rize_Management tells @NBAonTNT, @BleacherReport.”
Sharp is a two-time NCAA season blocks leader, averaging 6.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks. Throughout his collegiate career, he played for John A. Logan, Western Kentucky, and Ole Miss. Jamarion averaged 2.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks in the NBA Summer League. The Mavericks only won one out of five games in that league.
Jamarion Sharp’s massive height would definitely contribute to the Mavs’ defense for the next season. Additionally, he’s an inch taller than Victor Wembanyama of the Spurs. About two months before the start of the NBA Cup, Dallas could involve the 22-year-old in intense training with the others, utilizing his tough plays for the games to come.
The Dallas Mavericks plan to make a comeback next season after losing in the NBA Finals to the Brown-led Celtics, 1-4. The 2023–24 Western Division champion aims to win the division and overall title the following year.
Dallas finished fifth in the regular season. In the Western Conference Finals, they clinched the title by defeating the LA Clippers, the first-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Dallas Mavericks’ new Big Three: What to expect?
After his former team’s unfortunate season, Klay Thompson decided to leave the Golden State Warriors. He joined Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving on the Dallas Mavericks, forming the “Big Three” for the upcoming season.
Dallas would benefit from Thompson’s three-point shooting, adding offensive capabilities for the team. A perfect coordination between Klay, Luka, and Kyrie will be deadly. The decision to add someone like Sharp to the regular Mavericks team means that they’re also focusing on defense.
